Lisa and Phillip Trejo
Artists/Metal Sculptors
Spellbinding kinetic wind sculptures, designed and created by Lisa and Phillip Trejo, are both exhilarating and serene. While interacting with the wind, these sculptures called Art4Wind will capture your attention and awaken your curiosity. Lisa and Phillip are self-taught artists who both have creative backgrounds. Phillip, formerly an award winning jeweler, and Lisa having a distinctive background in retail design, work side-by-side creating their kinetic sculptures.
Already nationally recognized and award winning metal sculptors, Lisa and Phillip have recently been presented with a United States Utility Patent. Inventing a new mechanism and creating extraordinary designs are only two of the elements that set these wind sculptors apart. Utilizing a well-equipped studio the self-taught techniques the couple apply result in highly textured, aesthetically pleasing copper wind sculptures which range from whimsical to abstract to sci-fi.
Residing in Southwest Florida near the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor, Lisa and Phillip feel fortunate to have their designs in many galleries and private collections throughout North America.
Artists' Statement
Form follows function.
In this statement we see a balance in which one cannot work without the other. In our lives there has been a self-discovery which confirms this balance. Some will ask, how can two individuals create as one? Nothing could be further from the central meaning. Art as well as a successful relationship is a marriage of form and function.
Both elements feed equally from the other to create a whole, one entity. Being complete does not always mean being final. An evolution can be as satisfying as perfection. Forming a life or a work of art is a constantly creative endeavor that requires delicate construction. It is a building process.
Function requires meaning. Whether the meaning is to expose emotion or create lasting change, it is about effect. Our sculpture functions, what that function is, is not obvious. Our lives function. The purpose, however, is plain.
One can easily recognize when form and function are united. It is life and art, not a separation but a union.
Creative Process
Each individual sculpture begins with a concept, then we sketch and often re-sketch, hand cut, and fabricate. We form, solder and weld to produce a solid, long lasting sculpture. Our current body of work utilizes copper, brass, bronze and glass. We have developed a patina process, which adds a variegated finish to the copper and is unique to each sculpture.
